Decal Design

I finally finished it… I’ve been working on on a decal tutorial on and off for at least a year. When you see it in its 37-page glory I think you’ll see why it took so long to finish. Rather than make another massive multi-part series of webpages like I did with my scratchbuilding tutorial, I just made this PDF:

Funaka’s Creating Custom Decals

Now you too can make decals like these!!! :)

Hey Funaka, What version of Coral Draw do you use?

I use the Graphics Suite 12. I haven’t seen any reason to upgrade, it works fine with Windows 7.

Hello. I would to ask you some questions about your pdf I found really worthwhile, but I don’t know if this is the right place to do this.
By the way I will start to ask:
    1) you say you make a lot of copies of text to work on, but is it possible to copy the with all the guidelines interested, I mean horizontal and vertical?
    2) I have to work essentially with white text and while I’m designing, I work with black color text because I can see clearly it. Which is the best practice to do this job and how to finally change the color from black to white?
    Thanks inadvance for the moment

For your first question, copying guidelines can be a problem, see this thread: http://coreldraw.com/forums/t/11435.aspx
For your second question, I usually render everything in black, and then change color at the end. For text this is extremely simple. It can get more complicated when you have objects grouped together that are both text and shapes. You’ll have to ungroup them and change the color separately (fill for text, line for shapes).
Another option is to place a dark backgound (a filled rectangle moved to the back of your sheet) and then render everything in white on top of it.

Hi there. I recently bumped into your website and I must say that you do great work. Your tutorials are very informative and I find the scratchbuilding tutorial very useful. I’m interested in your decal tutorial as well but it seems like your link is not working. Do you mind sending me the pdf file or fixing the link above? Thanks bro!

Really sorry I’ve neglected my site for a couple months. I repaired the link!
