Hey, I really wanted to know how you did your weathering, especially on the thrusters
I used Tamiya weathering pastels, the set with soot, rust and snow. I scrape a bit of the pastel with a toothpick, dab it on the model and use a cotton swab (Q-Tip) to streak it. I used all three colors and alternated between the three to get the streaked effect. All the heavy sooty weathering (around vents) was done with this weathering set. The rusty grimy patches (mostly seen on the upper surfaces where crewmembers would walk) were done with dabs of artist’s oil paint smeared around. The finer streaking comes from applying a very heavy panel line wash and removing it haphazardly so that dirty streaks remain. I also faded the paintjob underneath all that with airbrush shading and applied off-color “touch ups” (often seen on real Navy aircraft) by airbrushing freehand with a lighter gray that doesn’t quite match the other grays on the model.
